August 28, 2023Position Title: Social Work/ Mental Health Clinical Intern
Reports To: Clinical Manager and Outreach Manager
I. OVERVIEW:

This placement is a semester long internship under individual supervision for the purpose of providing experience and guidance related to a mental health agency’s daily operation, administrative functioning, potential for individual counseling and group work, as well as independent and team skill building. The social work intern supports the agency in various capacities earning the opportunity to advance skillset beneficial within the social work field on micro and mezzo levels. The social work intern professionally assesses tasks, challenges, and barriers through consultation and independent initiative, and creates a plan to meet the presenting needs of either office responsibilities or those related to possible client interactions.
II. SUPERVISION PROVIDED:
- Weekly individual supervision with Clinical Manager and/or Outreach Manager.
- Monthly group supervision focused on integrating university coursework with practical application and case consultation.
III. QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be currently enrolled in Master of Social Work (MSW) or Mental Health Counseling program, general or clinical year, and eligible for field placement as determined by the sending university.
IV. REQUIRED SKILLS/ ABILITIES:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent observational and listening skills
- Patient demeanor with the ability to relate to, empathize with, and show compassion for a variety of populations and needs
- Individual initiative
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a dynamic team of professionals
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, and ability to learn other platforms for the purpose of completing tasks
V. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Administrative:
- Assists with insurance verification of incoming out-patient clients
- Supports organization of client files, scanning documents, and ultimately transferring hardcopy files to electronic filing system.
- Provides support with scheduling meetings on behalf of Operations Team including for perspective employment candidates, inter-agency meetings, etc.
- Supports Outreach Manager with community events including coordination of attendance, set up/clean up, interacting with community, grant research, etc.
- Supports agency Social Media accounts by posting relevant, current, goal-oriented posts highlighting agency events, topics of interest, causes, etc.
- Quality Assurance support related to contacting clients/consumers, etc.
Clinical:
- No cost or reduced rate Psychotherapy for clients seeking out-patient counseling services
- Behavioral Assistant (BA)/Mentor role includes serving high-risk children and families involved in the Child System of Care, Division of Child Protection and Permanency, and/or Mobile Response using positive behavioral principles, providing services primarily in client homes.
- BA/Mentor will assess safety, structure the environment, and use behavioral strategies designed to promote safety, skill building, and crisis stabilization.
- Acts as a Mandated Reporter on all issues of child abuse and neglect.
- Assists in assessing crisis situations, helping others on the Child and Family Team identify potential solutions, identifying resources that may be helpful in problem resolution, and developing plans to work toward identified goals of the youth/family.
- Participates in Monthly Group Supervision with peers to advance knowledge base, engage in case conferencing, offer, and receive feedback to/from peers
- Supports group facilitators with group preparation, research, coordination, possible opportunity for group co-facilitation by intern
Other:
