Reports To: Clinical Coordinator
I. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Mentor will serve high-risk children and families involved the Child System of Care (CSOC), Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP) and/or Mobile Response to enhance protective factors.
- Mentor will provide services in youth’s homes and community. Travel to client homes and other locations.
- Mentor will schedule sessions at times that are convenient for children and families, and when problems are likely to occur, including evenings and weekends.
- Mentor will assess safety, structure the environment and use strategies designed to promote safety.
- Mentor will provide support to empower youth to resolve current issues and develop coping strategies for the future.
- Mentor will provide model for healthy, trusting relationships through clear communication and setting appropriate boundaries.
- Mentor will engage in activities outside of the home to help expose youth to new opportunities and experiences.
- Mentor will acknowledge youths strengths, talents and gifts and encourage youth to utilize them
II. PROFESSIONALISM:
- Mentor will respects others’ professional opinions and tolerates a range of feelings.
- Mentor will be able to give and receive constructive criticism.
- Mentor will perform required tasks according to Hope Therapeutic Services, LLC philosophy, policies and procedures.
- Mentor will be courteous, approachable, and cooperative towards others and conducts self in a mature, competent, confident, and respectful manner.
- Mentor will understand and adhere to confidentiality rights of clients, co-workers and agency, consistent with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), and protects personal health information in written, verbal and electronic forms.
- Mentor will be punctual for client appointments, meetings, etc.
- Mentor will use good judgment, practices ethical decision-making, and explores all options in problem solving.
- Mentor will adheres to paperwork timeframes and deadlines.
III. CODE OF CONDUCT:
- Mentor will limit interactions with clients, to those necessary to perform an employee’s job functions.
- Mentor will promote appropriate physical contact with consumers.
- Mentor will not transport clients in personal vehicle.
SPECIFICATIONS:
*Must have valid New Jersey state driver’s license
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related field
Experience: Proven ability to work with clients, other professionals and para-professionals in diverse communities.
Skills and Abilities: Ability to create a warm, non-threatening therapeutic atmosphere, ability to provide non-judgmental responses, ability to support adolescents/children and families, ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Professional Characteristics: Open, warm, empathic, attentive listener, self-aware, ethical, creative, organized, flexible, open to criticism, patient, responsible, able to work independently, mature, self- motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic.
Work Environment/Physical Demands: The individual must possess the ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, and lifting of up to or in excess of 50 pounds.
